Small firms 'going for growth'

Date: 22nd December 2008

A large number of small businesses are hoping to grow next year, a new survey has revealed.

An article on nebusiness.co.uk reveals that a survey showed almost 80 per cent of smaller firms in the south Tyneside area - including partnerships and sole traders - were looking to expand, despite the economic downturn.

The greatest challenge - the Tyneside Business Forum found - was discovering new markets, which many said they needed support with.

Manager of the forum, Michael Arnot, told nebusiness.co.uk: "As you would expect, the results show that confidence is taking a knock due to the economic climate.

"However, the fact that so many businesses are still even considering growth is immensely positive."

While there is no doubt that the Christmas period will keep most retailers busy, it is important of small businesses to remember that the online self-assessment tax deadline falls on January 31st.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
