Small companies 'could help EU'

Date: 26th June 2008

Small businesses could be helpful to the European Union (EU), it has been claimed.

According to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), it is possible for small companies to assist the EU in retreating from its current period of melancholy.

However, the organisation has claimed that for this to be possible, the EU must offer assistance to these organisations so that they may operate according to their full potential.

"Small businesses will make a vital contribution to bringing Europe out of its economic gloom, but the EU must release them from their administrative shackles and allow them to fulfil their potential," said Tina Sommer, EU and international affairs chairman for the FSB, an organisation established in 1974.

The FSBs comments were released prior to the publication of the EU Small Business Act, which the organisation believes should contain a number of improvements, such as the introduction of exemptions from regulation for businesses with less than ten members of staff.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
