Small businesses 'crucial to recovery'

Date: 28th July 2010

Small businesses 'crucial to recovery'The strength of the small business sector is critical to the UK's economic recovery, Bytestart.co.uk has said.

Emyr Williams, director of the small business website, said that such firms can help create jobs and support the economy as a whole.

He added that small firms are the most important employers in the UK and contribute large amounts of tax to the Treasury.

Mr Williams' comments come after a report from Bibby Financial Services revealed that 72 per cent of small firms are feeling positive about trading conditions.

One in six small businesses believe that their operations are going well and have actually benefitted from the economic downturn.

"Early indications are that the coalition government is far more pro-business than the previous, so that gives business owners confidence," Mr Williams said.

"Business owners know that there may be a little more pain ahead but I think that confidence will be maintained."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
