Scots govt to help firms acquire contracts

Date: 26th October 2011

Scots govt announces procurement website launchSmall businesses operating north of the border could be among those interested in a new government policy.

Alex Neil, cabinet secretary for infrastructure and capital investment, has announced the launch of a new website aimed at making public sector contracts easier for small businesses to acquire.

Developed alongside a number of businesses, the website aims to simplify the sometimes lengthy and difficult process.

Mr Neil commented: "It's really important that suppliers have a voice in public procurement and we have worked with Scottish businesses to design the Supplier Journey. Their feedback will be key to keeping it fresh.

"This brings together and simplifies a lot of often complicated guidance, making it easier to understand. It will be particularly useful for small businesses, which are the engine driving Scotland's economy."

Businesswoman Moira Bain, managing director of office furniture firm Azzurro, welcomed the launch of the site, saying its user-friendly style and presentation helps visitors source useful links to supplementary information.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
