North-east firms having major impact on community

Small business owners operating in the north-east could be among those encouraged by the findings of a recent report.

Data from the latest annual Barclays Business Regional Impact Index has shown that the area's entrepreneurial spirit has benefited the local community.

Figures from the study showed that the north-east now tops the Index, while the south-east moved from fourth to the bottom of the table.

The study also showed that despite a fall in confidence, almost half (49 per cent) of UK firms expect to see their operation expand in 2012.

A further 82 per cent of UK firms expect profits to increase or remain static over the next year.
