Lack of confidence in UK professionals, survey shows

Small business accountants might be interested to know that politicians are the most distrusted professionals in the UK, according to a new survey.

Research by The Co-operative Bank Current Accounts found that many Brits lack confidence in the people who work towards economic stability.

While politicians topped the list with 57 per cent of the vote, bankers followed with 43 per cent.

Journalists, estate agents and even footballers featured in the top ten.

John Hughes, business leader of retail products at The Co-operative Bank, commented: "These results are very unsettling. For the sake of economic stability, it's imperative that the British public has confidence in its government, financial services sector and the housing market.

"It's vital that representatives working in each of these professions work hard to earn back the trust and respect of the general public."

More than half (54 per cent) of those surveyed agreed that they were less trusting that they were a year ago, citing the recession, poor service levels and a selfish society as reasons for this.
