IT firms to contend with tight budgets

Small businesses and sole traders operating in the UK's IT industry may be expected to do more with less this year.

A recently-published report by ReThink Recruitment has revealed that IT directors expect workloads to increase while budgets decline this year.

According to the study, 66 per cent of IT decision makers feel that workloads will rise throughout the remainder of 2010.

However, 48 per cent said they have "major concerns" about whether or not this increased level of work can be completed within the smaller budgets that will be allocated over the same period.

Michael Bennett, ReThink Recruitment's director, said: "For many IT departments this will be the second consecutive year in which budgets have not kept pace with workload demands."

He added: "Concern is growing among IT directors that budgets simply won't be able to cope with workload demands, as projects which were shelved during the recession are revived."
