HMRC sets up meetings with local accountants

Date: 28th August 2008

HMRC has revealed when members of the Working Together local groups will have the opportunity to meet and shape the direction of taxation regulation in the country.

The Working Together local groups are made up of agents, advisers and accountants, as well as people from HMRC and the major national professional bodies.

According to HMRC, these groups provide a "forum to raise operational issues or problems".

Between the beginning of September and October 10th, a total of ten Working Together conferences will take place in cities including Birmingham, Bristol, London, Belfast, Manchester and Leeds.

At these events, accountants will be invited to "contribute to discussion and consultation at technical workshops"; "meet HMRC directors who will set out the current direction for HMRC, its structure and the challenges it faces"; and "develop and share best practice for engagement and joint working between HMRC and the agent community for the future".

Recently, HMRC asked some small business accountants if they would be willing to take part in a telephone discussion about their experiences of using the government's tax services.
