HMRC's online advice to help small businesses

Date: 9th February 2012

HMRC to issue online adviceWhile HMRC has courted some controversy of late, the department is looking to help the UK's small businesses with a new series of online seminars.

The 'webinars' will be held in both live and pre-recorded formats and will cover a range of issues faced by small business owners and self-employed workers.

A range of issues will be raised by the webinars with advice offered on capital allowances, online self-assessments and VAT.

HMRC will also be airing an overview of how limited companies operate.

Colin Ford, head of the project, explained: "The webinars allow businesses and the self-employed to participate in the live seminars and ask questions. If the dates or times don't suit, pre-recorded webinars will be accessible at any time of day or night.

"It's inevitable that some people find tax issues daunting, especially if they are setting out in business. The webinars are one of the many ways that HMRC aims to make tax as hassle free as possible."

The live webinars will also be followed by a 30-minute question and answer session.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
