Govt told to reduce red tape burden 'further and faster'

Date: 8th November 2011

Enterprise minister calls for red tape reduction Small business owners operating in a wide range of UK industries could be interested in the recent comments of one leading MP.

Employment minister Chris Grayling has called on the government to move "further and faster" to reduce the red tape burden faced by small businesses.

Speaking to the Federation of Small Businesses, the minister said the coalition needs to "take a step back" in order to see how regulations affect the country's smaller enterprises.

"Whilst there are many things that we can change ourselves, we also have to deal with the European dimension of health and safety law. From there the tide of regulation seems endless," he commented.

"It will hold back growth. It will cost jobs. It will make Europe more uncompetitive. And it has to stop."

Mr Grayling said he will head to Brussels in order to stem the tide of regulations, saying firms should be able to operate with "as little interference as possible".

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
