Govt to help small firms 'go green'

Date: 21st September 2010

Small firms to benefit from govt's green plansSmall businesses in the UK could be among those to benefit from new government plans to reduce carbon emissions.

The coalition is in talks to introduce a multi-billion pound scheme to help smaller firms "go green", according to website Switchforbusiness.com.

Under the project, more than four million small firms around the UK will benefit from energy-saving measures and therefore a reduction in costs.

Commenting on news, James Constant, the website's director, said: "The latest proposal from the government to help small businesses is extremely welcome.

"Anything that helps small businesses to manage their energy usage and therefore cut their costs has got to be good news. The question is whether it will go far enough to encourage business owners to be proactive in the energy market and to take steps to really tackle their energy bills."

The news comes as a number of businesses - those using in excess of £500,000 worth of electricity per year - prepare to sign up to the new Carbon Reduction Commitment by September 30th.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
