Govt announces new plans to cut red tape

Date: 27th June 2011

Business minister looking to reduce red tapeSmall businesses operating across the UK could soon notice a reduction in red tape following a recent announcement from the government.

According to the coalition, inspections and enforcement are the "most noticeable" ways in which UK firms experience red tape.

As such, the government has asked inspectors and enforcement officers across the regulatory landscape to help improve regulation and reduce the business burden faced by UK enterprises.

Business minister Mark Prisk commented: "I'd encourage everyone involved in enforcement to get involved in the Red Tape Challenge.

"You deal with these regulations and businesses who need to comply with them every day, so you're uniquely placed to give honest and frank appraisal of where improvements can be made, without compromising the protection that the regulations were designed to provide."

The move comes as the coalition also asks business owners how regulation and enforcement impact their operations and what changes could be made to reduce the burden placed on them to help their enterprise develop and grow.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
