Government unveils security grants

Date: 3rd February 2010

Governement to offer security grants to small businessesBritish businesses looking to protect their investments and secure their premises will soon be able to apply for government grants, it has been announced.

Around 1,000 smaller firms will share the £5 million pot from the Small Retailers Grants Fund, Home Office minister Alan Campbell announced yesterday (February 2nd).

The money is intended to help businesses purchase security equipment such as cameras, alarms and counterfeit note detector pens.

Mr Campbell said: "This fund was set up to provide real help to the small businesses that need it the most and I am delighted that more than 1,000 retailers will benefit from the increased security these grants will provide.

"It is just one part of the government's work to target the crimes that affect businesses, especially during an economic downturn."

The grants, which are set up as part of the Retail Crime Action Plan, will also be used to fund neighbourhood watch-style business communities so retailers can work together to reduce crime in their area.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
