Flexible working focus urged

Date: 27th July 2010

Homeworking Companies should offer flexible working arrangements to staff as there is a big demand for it, the Work Foundation has said.

Stephen Overell, associate director of the advice organisation, said that many firms have changed their structures in recent years.

As a result, working patterns have also changed and now it is more common for people to work from home.

"But it is true that there is an awfully long way to go and I think in the future we will see much more adoption of flexible working and many more different forms of flexible working," Mr Overelll said.

He added: "It is something that both sides - workers and employers - can gain from. For example, flexible working is often quite a good way to meet customer needs if they are beyond standard working hours."

Earlier this week, a report from recruitment consultancy Hays revealed that 46 per cent of workers believe their current employer does not encourage flexible working.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
