FSB offers flood help for small firms

Date: 25th January 2008

Small businesses affected by flooding caused by the recent heavy rain have been offered financial help by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

The organisation said that firms in need of assistance to get their business operations up and running again can apply for an interest-free loan from its flood fund.

Set up in July last year, the fund allows small organisations to apply for a loan of up to £5,000. Firms can do so through their regional FSB office.

"The FSB realises just how important it is for a small business affected by these unforeseeable incidents to be up and running as soon as possible, hence our interest-free loan fund," commented John Wright, national chairman of the FSB.

However, more could be done by the government to provide further assistance to UK businesses in the event of flooding, he added.

Last year, the FSB teamed up with computer manufacturer Dell to help firms affected by July's floods to buy new IT equipment at a discounted price.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
