Expert highlights benefits of VoIP

Date: 24th June 2008

Internet-based telephony can be beneficial to small to medium-sized enterprises, it has been claimed.

According to Vincent Potier, the managing director of Vonage, should a small business opt to manage their telephony via the internet - known as VoIP - they may find it to be significantly less expense than their traditional telephone service.

Indeed, Mr Potier has claimed that large telecommunications firms take advantage of small businesses far more than they take advantage of the users of residential telephone connections.

"The big telecom companies exploit small businesses even more than they exploit residential users," said Mr Potier.

"What drives people to stay with the known and tried is actually want reinforces the poor quality that the normal telecom companies deliver."

However, Mr Potier also noted that reducing telephone costs may not be a significant priority for small companies.

Established in 2001, Vonage is a provider of VoIP telephone services.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
