Email is dying, says expert

Date: 24th October 2011

E-mail to be replaced by social media?Small businesses around the UK could be tempted to turn their attention to social media following the comments of one expert.

Edward Saatchi, co-founder of National Field, has claimed that email is now a dying form of communication, explaining that businesses now prefer the immediacy and sociability of social media platforms instead.

"More communication points were being transmitted through social networks than through email. [It is] is a dying form and social media is taking over," he commented.

"In the US there is the concept of the social enterprise that embraces social media and there is the feeling there that in the next four or five years those companies that aren't embracing social [media] are just going to be left behind."

Meanwhile, small businesses in and around Peterborough have been given advice on how to make the most of social media after local firms Something Beckons and Turquoise Tiger held the first in a series of special workshops.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
