Defaqto: Future is online for SME insurance

Date: 29th April 2010

Small firms are realising the benefits of online deals, says expertSmaller British businesses are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits provided by purchasing insurance products from the online market.

This is according to a new report from specialist financial research firm Defaqto, which showed that 25 per cent of insurance products aimed at smaller enterprises are now available online.

Tradesmen look to have seen the largest rise in available online cover after last year saw a 30 per cent rise in the number of products.

Retailers and offices also noticed a significant increase in availability with rises of 24 per cent each.

Mike Powell, Defaqto insight analyst and author of the report, said: "This is a trend that is set to continue as businesses can see real benefits from purchasing cover online.

"The industry needs to be alert to the fact that this is the future for small business insurance and continue to develop more products and services that cater for this distribution method."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
