CMI report highlights economic struggle

Date: 6th October 2011

CMI report reveals economic pessimism Small business owners operating in the private sector around the UK could be among those interested in the findings of a new report.

Data recently published by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) has shown that fewer than ten per cent of UK managers believe that the UK's GDP will increase over the next 12 months.

Indeed, 68 per cent of the respondents believe that there is a real danger that the country could dip back into recession.

Petra Wilton, the CMI's director of policy and research, said: "Given the pressure on the private sector to spearhead the recovery … the predictions of business leaders make particularly uncomfortable reading."

The CMI's study also showed that changes to the tax system could benefit a number of firms operating in the UK.

Managers cited tax simplification, tax breaks and skills investment as ways that the private sector could be given a much-needed boost.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
