Businesses urged to take care in arctic conditions

Date: 5th February 2009

Businesses have been warned over safety during arctic weatherBusiness owners have been urged to take precautionary measures as the UK is swept by arctic weather conditions.

Direct Line for Business has advised firms - including limited companies and partnerships - to ensure they have correct insurance cover in case a customer or client were to slip on ice.

In such an event, businesses could be hit by expensive claims which could prove fatal during the recession.

Head of Direct Line for Business, Kate Syred, said: "With the recent snow fall now turning into ice, it is essential that business owners think about how to mitigate any potential dangers for their customers and staff."

Advice from the group included gritting or de-icing walkways, mopping up wet floors and being wary of potentially dangerous snow falling from roofs.

Last month, the British Safety Council warned businesses that the economic downturn was no excuse to cut down on health and safety measures.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
