Business start-ups prepare for annual awards

Date: 22nd October 2008

Business start-ups in the UK are getting ready for perhaps the biggest night of their calendar year.

With the 2008 Startups Awards in the capital little over a week away, the finalists are busy preparing for the ceremony which includes prizes in the categories of Green Business of the Year, Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Online Business of the Year.

This year in particular has marked a difficult period for the small company sector, with the credit crunch and rises in taxation all adding further pressure to business start-ups.

Strategic partnership manager at BT Tradespace, Mark Riley, told startups.co.uk: "As an online proposition itself, BT Tradespace is doubly pleased to be presenting the award of Online Business of the Year.

"We are honoured to be associated with such a dynamic and talented community."

After the awards' conclusion, it is likely that many of the businesses involved will be looking to complete their self-assessment tax return before the October 31st deadline.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
