Business start-ups offered £50k award

Date: 28th May 2009

Business start-ups have been offered £50k in prize moneyBritain's most enterprising business start-ups are in with a chance of landing a £50,000 prize as part of a national competition.

The British Chambers of Commerce's (BCC) Chamber Awards aims to showcase some of the country's most accomplished small businesses.

Firms, from sole traders to limited companies, have been encouraged to enter the free competition before the June 26th closing date.

Managing director of the BCC, John Dunsmore, said: "We all know how difficult it's been out there for business recently.

"That makes it even more important for companies to make the most of every opportunity they can to demonstrate their strengths and skills."

He added that the chance to secure a £50,000 "cash injection" was also attractive for business start-ups.

Figures published by the advisory service Business Link earlier this month showed that 42 per cent of small enterprises in London were hoping to expand their business this year.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
