Business could benefit from new mentors

Date: 23rd November 2011

Businesses to benefit from mentor investmentSmall business owners operating in a wide range of UK sectors could be set to benefit from new government investment.

Business and enterprise minister Mark Prisk recently revealed that the coalition has made £1.2 million available to facilitate the recruitment and training of a further 5,000 business mentors.

The move will see the number of mentors increase to around 16,000 as the government attempts to help the UK's smaller firms expand and stimulate job creation.

Mr Prisk commented: "Businesses tell us they want to get advice from other experienced business people and we know that those seeking support are more likely to succeed.

"Mentoring can deliver significant economic benefits from just a small commitment of time and resources. Building a relationship with a mentor can have a positive effect on your business, whether you are just starting up or are already established."

The funds will boost the coffers of the government's Get Mentoring Scheme, which is operated through the Small Firms Enterprise Development Initiative.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
