New video advice for business start-ups

Date: 24th February 2009

Business start-ups will benefit from new online video advice on taxationBritish business start-ups are to be offered advice on a series of taxation issues as part of a new online government scheme.

Fronted by acclaimed TV presenter Dan Snow, HM Revenue and Customs' (HMRC) set of "bite-sized" video guides are designed to provide invaluable advice for first-time sole traders and partnerships.

Topics covered will include income taxation for the self-employed, corporation taxation and VAT.

"We've broken the information down into small video chunks, so that people can access exactly what they need to know," said Mr Snow.

"Hopefully, this makes the new videos really useful for people and businesses."

The government department will also be producing the Start-up Diaries - a new video series following the lives of Ruth, Nick and Hannah as they go it alone as in the world of business as sole traders.

Also this week, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development called on the government to provide more support for business apprenticeship schemes.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
