HMRC asks for accountant feedback

Date: 19th August 2008

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has asked some small business accountants if they would be willing to take part in a telephone discussion about their experiences of using the government's tax services.

The organisation stressed that it was dedicated to developing its relationship with tax advisors and accountants and therefore revealed that it was planning a series of data research operations in the coming months.

One of the first involves telephone discussions with accountants about the experiences they have had when dealing with HMRC and how they felt they went.

"We'll share the findings with you once they're available (probably late 2008)," an HMRC statement explained.

"As the research is designed to guide our future improvements we hope that, if approached, as many of you as possible will take the time to help us with this important project."

Recently, HMRC launched a series of dedicated phone lines for local accountants. The services were designed to allow tax advisors resolve any problems their clients face as quickly and effectively as possible.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
