Business urged to consider female accountants

Date: 18th August 2008

A conference in September will focus on what businesses can do to ensure they recruit and retain the best possible female accountants.

Organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), the event is set to take place on September 29th and is titled Why Women Mean Business.

It is due to focus on talent management for businesses and how they can help support accountants who want to return to the workplace after a career break.

"In today's marketplace where skilled candidates are such a precious commodity, employers need to look carefully at what they are offering their existing members of staff in terms of career development and training," commented Sharron Gunn, the director of member services at the ICAEW.

"Today's finance professionals can now afford to be selective in who they choose to work for and will look elsewhere if their current employer does not deliver."

Recently, Business Link's Colin Grimston stressed that managing tax payments was one of the most important things the owners of small firms had to do.

He told the north-east's Journal newspaper: "Sometimes it is difficult to keep track of changing legal requirements and identifying those that apply to your business and require action."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
