Academic appointment to boost small firms

Date: 6th November 2008

The appointment of a renowned small business academic to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is set to bring a welcome boost to the sector.

The FSB announced yesterday (November 5th) that professor Alistair Anderson - a director at Aberdeen business school - will take up a central role at the organisation's national council in central London.

Professor Anderson will have a hands-on role at the body and help provide practical support for small firms struggling during the economic downturn.

Colin Willman, FSB chair of education skills and business support, said of the appointment: "We are confident that together we can help the 13.5 million people who work in small businesses around the country to help put the UK economy back on track."

He added that the FSB looked forward to working with Professor Anderson to help enhance the understanding of policy makers and the public when it came to business start-ups.

In the meantime, small firms which are feeling the effects of the credit crunch should consider visiting an accountancy firm for financial advice.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
