More employees working from home, report shows

Date: 15th May 2009

Working from home is becoming more commonMore than half of UK employees have begun working remotely more often since the start of the financial crisis, it has been discovered.

Figures published by BT Business showed that 88 per cent of staff members see savings on travel, food and attire as the biggest benefit to staying at home.

With the advent of changes to flexible working rules and more workers operating remotely, it is also possible that more organisations will be turning to accountants for support with payroll management.

Managing director of BT Business, Bill Murphy, said: "Anything employers can do to help their staff save money in the current climate is not only great for morale but can also have a big impact on performance."

Mr Murphy added that allowing members of staff to work from home was "proving to be a double win for employers and their employees".

Figures published by the employment agency Croner last month revealed that only 17 per cent of parents were considering making a flexible working request following changes in regulation.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
