Welcome Budget for contractors, says PCG

Date: 25th March 2011

Good Budget for contractors, says PCGUK contractors saw a number of valuable measures included in this week's Budget Statement, it has been claimed.

PCG, the body formerly known as the Professional Contractors Group, said that despite the retention of the controversial IR35 tax legislation, chancellor George Osborne's Budget should be welcomed.

John Brazier, the organisation's managing director, commented: "Aside from the disappointment around the retention of IR35 that will need firm evaluation by the sector, this year's Budget contains a number of valuable measures for freelance businesses.

"We believe this Budget should make the business climate more favourable for the UK’s 1.4 million freelancers, whose flexible expertise UK plc relies on for its future growth."

The expert added that the coalition's increase of 5p per mile in mileage payouts, coupled with the 1p reduction in fuel duty, will offer a "big boost" to contractors working for multiple clients across many urban and rural locations.
