WWF highlights benefits of video conferencing

Date: 27th May 2008

Conservation group the WWF has highlighted some of the benefits businesses and other organisations can levy through video-conferencing technology.

Aviation is among the fastest growing contributors to carbon emissions in the UK and video-conferencing is one of the easiest ways to avoid the need for travelling by air, according to the WWF.

However, the group has made clear that environmental benefits are not the only attraction of these kinds of technologies because they are also able to offer some significant advantages in terms of cost saving.

Peter Lockley, head of transport policy at WWF, said: "89 per cent of the companies in our survey believe that if they used it well video conferencing can actually improve their productivity."

"It's making them a leaner as well as greener organisation," he added.

Earlier this year, figures released by the Critical Research company showed that almost two-thirds of British businesses are actively aiming to reduce their travel-related carbon footprint.
