UK employees 'prefer casual dress'

Date: 28th May 2008

Employees in the UK generally prefer to wear casual clothes rather than a suit for work, according to a recent study.

Research carried out by the Aziz Corporation discovered that a slight majority of employers now allow their workforces to dress in a casual manner for everyday office activities.

In addition, more than one in ten are now letting their staff dress casually, even if they have a business meeting on their agenda and only a quarter of British offices maintain a strict suit-only policy.

However, more than eight in ten employees agree that flip flops and shorts are best saved for outside the office, Aziz reports.

"Enforcing a suits-only dress code is seen as outdated and perhaps a little insular in an increasingly international workplace, an image which savvy modern companies want to steer clear of," explained Professor Khalid Aziz, chairman of the Aziz Corporation.

Last week, the Institute for Employment Studies reported that workers around the UK are increasingly aiming to secure a higher salary rather than alternative benefits in light of the worsening economic climate.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
