TUC confirms eventual closure of gender pay gap

Date: 11th June 2008

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has confirmed that the UK's gender divide over pay will eventually close.

According to Sarah Veal, the head of equality and employment rights at the TUC, while the gender salary divide will eventually disappear, the real question is over whether or not people should be prepared to wait until it naturally occurs.

Ms Veal added that while different levels of pay may be reflective of reality, the TUC does not approve of, or condone such practice.

"Yes, it will slowly. But it's a question of whether we should be prepared to wait for things to change, for society to shift and for culture to reflect this economic reality," said Ms Veal.

"We [may] need to give it a bit of a push or a shove with a refreshing of the equality and sex discrimination laws to ginger employers up a bit."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
