Survey highlights willingness of employees to work

Date: 15th May 2008

Workers over the age of 40 are prepared to remain in employment past the traditional retirement age of 65, it has been claimed.

According to the findings of a report by HSBC, in an effort to ensure a comfortable retirement, post-40 employees are prepared to continue working until they are into their 70s.

HSBC's findings are from the organisation's study entitled Future of Retirement, reports Personnel Today.

"People want to have a productive and enjoyable period of retirement and much of their later working years is spent preparing for that," said John Small, head of business development at HSBC, an organisation established in 1865.

"Earlier reports found that one of the main reasons for retirement is that workers have reached a designated age, not because they were ready to leave."

The study was based upon a poll of over 20,000 individuals, spanning a total of four continents.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
