Small firms 'must use internet to develop'
Date: 14th January 2008
Harnessing the potential of the internet is essential for success in the modern business climate, according to a training group.
E-skills UK said that engaging with the internet can provide small businesses with "improved flexibility" and "accessibility of learning", particularly in the realm of training but impacting on other areas as well.
Laura Overton, director of e-learning at the organisation, said that better use of online resources can lead to improved productivity, higher morale and better quality of work among small companies.
She explained: "The things we need to know for our jobs are changing faster and faster as we are moving into a service economy.
"It's about how you keep people up-to-date with the latest information and the latest skills."
HM Revenue & Customs is advising small businesses and individuals to use the internet for submitting their tax returns this January, as all self assessment forms can now be filed using the online system.
