Small businesses 'reluctant' over VoIP systems

Date: 18th December 2008

Smaller businesses feel discouraged from investing in voice over IP (VoIP) telephone systems due to concerns over its performance

An investigation by Viatel found that more than 50 per cent of smallers firms were yet to utilise the technology - which allows individuals to communication via voice on the internet - due to anxieties over its reliability.

Despite this, the vast majority of firms, including sole traders and limited companies, stated that they were interested in investing in VoIP at some point.

Alistair Buck, director of voice for Viatel, commented: "Smaller businesses are looking for cost-effective solutions going forward, and this is even more important in the current climate.

"You get what you pay for, but you don't have to go for very expensive technology to get a good quality service."

Earlier this month, research by T-Mobile revealed that small businesses were not making the most of their networking opportunities due to the ongoing financial crisis.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
