Scottish accountants get HMRC advice line

Date: 11th August 2008

Scottish accountants and tax advisers will soon have a new advice line they can contact to obtain the extra information they need to help their small business clients.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) revealed that its new agent dedicated telephone line (ADL) in Scotland will launch tomorrow (August 12th).

This means that small business accountants north of the border will have their own dedicated line to HMRC, which will mean they can speak to a specially trained adviser who can help with difficult and complex issues.

Should the problem prove too complex, the adviser will be able to quickly pass it on to a specialist within HMRC.

"Agents have told us that they needed telephone lines that offered them a unique service that catered for their needs," explained Brian Redford, the head of HMRC's agents and employers service improvement programme.

"We have already had positive feedback from people who have used the lines elsewhere in the country."

In July, ADLs were launched in Cardiff, Bootle, Manchester, Belfast, Portsmouth and Sunderland.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
