Recruiters discuss AWR with government officials

Date: 20th April 2011

Will small firms benefit from AWR discussionsSmall businesses in the UK could be among those to benefit from further discussions regarding the agency workers' regulations (AWR).

The EU-inspired legislation is due to be implemented into UK law from October 1st this years and recruitment industry representatives have met with government officials to iron out any issues surrounding the regulations.

In a recent meeting hosted by the Association of recruitment Consultancies (ARC), experts from the sector met with officials from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

The department welcomes the outcome of the meeting, saying the ARC has been instrumental in helping the government shape its AWR guidance.

A senior official commented: "The seminar that ARC hosted proved extremely valuable in helping us with our work on the AWR guidance.

"To be able to gather so many salient points on the draft version not only served as an excellent opportunity for us to fully understand any remaining worries that those in the recruitment industry might still have, but will ultimately help us produce the best possible guidance for the new regulations."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
