REC urges chancellor to protect 'delicate' jobs market

Date: 22nd June 2010

Osborne urged to protect jobs marketSmall businesses operating in the UK could be among those to be affected by recent calls for the government to protect the country's jobs market.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has called on chancellor of the exchequer George Osborne to make job creation a priority in order for the "delicate and fragile" jobs market to recover.

REC director of external affairs Tom Hadley said: "The stakes are high for the UK's already delicate jobs market.

"In the short-term, expenditure cuts will not only impact on employment in the public sector but will also affect all those supplying services into public bodies. The government will need to deliver cost-effective guidance and support for job-seekers – for example, by harnessing the expertise of professional recruiters and employers."

Today's (June 22nd) Budget is expected to include a range of public sector spending cuts and a number of tax increases for businesses and individuals.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
