Psychometric testing 'increasingly popular' in recruitment

Date: 20th May 2008

Psychometric testing is an increasingly popular tool within the recruitment sector, it has been claimed.

According to comments by Rachel Middleton, a representative from the Psychological Testing Centre, in addition to psychometric testing becoming increasingly popular during the recruitment process, there is movement towards applying it to existing employees.

"There's no guarantee that if you just select through normal procedures of the interview process you're necessarily going to have the right candidate for the job," said Ms Middleton, the manager of the Psychological Testing Centre.

"Some recruiters would probably use a mixture of either ability or aptitude tests, or they would use personality tests as well."

Ms Middleton also speculated that a number of employers now view application forms and CVs as a less favourable tool in the process of recruitment.

The Psychological Testing Centre is run by the British Psychological Society, a representative body established in 1901 and operating with a membership base of more than 45,000.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
