Olympics to give London IT sector a 'significant boost'

Date: 4th April 2011

2012 Games 'will boost IT jobs market'The London IT sector will be given a significant boost by the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, it has been claimed.

James Toovey, founder and director of recruitment firm Langley James, has claimed IT professionals should consider a move to the capital in order to make the most of forthcoming opportunities.

The expert said IT contractors in particular stand to benefit from a boost in the jobs market.

"I think there will be [more jobs] for the short-term contractors, because of the weight of workload that's going to be around and also because of the amount of time off people are going to be taking to go to the Olympics. So for contractors, there's going to be a boost," he explained.

However, the expert claimed that while contractors will benefit, the Games may not offer much in the way of a long-term legacy for IT workers.

"It's more for the contractors, apart from new ventures that will [start up] on the legacy that's left, [for which] there will be some new positions. The bigger area of growth is going to be for the contract market, because people are going to be off during that busy period," he added.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
