Media and entertainment sectors on the up

Date: 7th July 2011

Media and entertainment sectors see hiring boostSmall businesses operating in the UK's media and entertainment sectors may have noticed an increase in demand for their services in recent months.

That is the suggestion of a new industry report, which has revealed that hiring levels in the two sectors are on the rise.

Data published by Handle Recruitment has revealed an upswing of 34 per cent across the "main business functions" including sales, marketing and digital, HR, office support, finance and legal.

Dominic Warman, director of Handle's marketing division, commented: "The digital space continues to increase in importance within the media and entertainment sectors [and] this is driven by the fact that these industries were early adopters of social media.

"There is a real need for people who can effectively create innovative campaigns across multiple platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Foursquare. Creativity on its own is not enough and there is a real emphasis on insight and analysis and those who can really add value to the bottom line."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
