Law sector remains 'buoyant'

Date: 2nd September 2011

Professional services sector remains 'bouyant', says RECSmall business working in the UK's consumer and professional services sector could be encouraged by the recent comment of the country's leading recruitment industry body.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has claimed that the long-term picture for the sector is not as bleak as recent industry reports have suggested.

It comes after the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) published a study showing a "steady decline" in demand for business.

Highlighting law practices as an example, Martin Snell, chair of the REC's Legal and HR Group, said that business is now looking up.

"Law firms were among the first businesses to introduce the flexible staffing practices to help them adapt to the current challenging economic conditions through offering reduced working hours sabbaticals and initiating hiring freezes two years ago," he commented.

"As a result, business remains buoyant to a degree that most firms are now in a good position to expand."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
