HMRC urges contact over volcanic ash disruption

Date: 28th April 2010

Businesses urged to call HMRC over ash cloud chaosBritish businesses that have had their operations affected by the recent chaos surrounding volcanic ash in the air have been urged to contact HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) if the disruption is likely to affect their payments.

The department has called on businesses to make contact as soon as possible if the disruption to UK flights has had an impact on their ability to meet their tax, National Insurance, VAT or any other demands.

Those that feel they will be unable to afford to pay have been advised to call HMRC's Business Payment Support Service.

An HMRC statement said: "The sooner you get in touch, the sooner we'll be able to see how we can help.

"Don't wait until your payment is overdue."

Thousands of Britons were left stranded abroad and unable to return to work earlier this month after an eruption in Iceland saw volcanic ash hang in the air, which resulted in the banning of all flights in and out of the UK for almost one week.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
