HMRC announces new riot support helpline

Date: 12th August 2011

HMRC sets up riot hotlineSmall businesses affected by the recent riots across England could be among those encouraged by the latest move from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

In a bid to offer support to enterprises affected by the violence, the department has announced the launch of a new dedicated helpline.

It comes as HMRC said it is determined to offer businesses as much help as it can during the challenging times that lie ahead.

"The dedicated Civil Disorder helpline is available to provide comprehensive advice and deal sympathetically with problems currently faced by businesses and individuals," the statement from the department explained.

"In particular, HMRC will agree payment schedules with those who are unable to pay their tax bills due to short-term financial difficulties and discuss practical solutions where businesses and individuals cannot meet their other obligations to HMRC."

It comes as the coalition announced new funding intended to help businesses and individuals get back up and running following the violent outbursts.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
