Green businesses make 'greater profits'

Date: 28th March 2008

Environmentally-friendly businesses make greater profits, it has been suggested.

Ian Gent, the head of communications at Business Link, told the Devon Express & Echo that business owners who made an effort to reduce their carbon footprint would reap financial rewards.

"Showing that your company follows sound environmental policies and procedures can also help you make savings on environmental insurance premiums," he comments.

Mr Gent added that there are many "positive marketing opportunities" to be gained by running an environmentally-friendly company.

According to Business Link, good environmental practices will benefit the reputation of a company, while at the same time reducing pollution levels.

The Carbon Trust says there are a number of steps that small business owners can take to reduce their carbon footprint, such as carrying out a carbon survey and displaying energy awareness posters for employees to learn from.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
