Good Food Guide sees increase in pub prices

Date: 2nd October 2009

Surrey pints cost over £3Pubs are increasing beer prices, new data from the latest edition of the Good Pub Guide revealed today.

Prices in Surrey were revealed to be the highest in the country, with the average pint costing £3.01.

The national "pint average" was also found to have increased from £2.58 to £2.68 over the past year.

Alisdair Aird, an editor at the Guide, told the Daily Telegraph: "It's all too easy now to go to the bar, buy a round and find out that your £20 has completely disappeared."

Britain's pubs have been facing tough times over recent months, as the recession has eaten into profits.

Figures from CGA Strategy, compiled on behalf of the British Beer and Pub Association, showed in July 2009 that an average of 52 pubs were closing a week in the UK, up from 39 per week over the final six months of 2008.

Around 24,000 pub jobs were also thought to have been lost over the previous 12 months.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
