Fuel duty is 'most unfair tax'

Date: 7th April 2010

Is fuel duty the Businesses that have a heavy reliance on transport could be among those interested in the result of a recent online survey.

Fuel duty has emerged as the UK's "most unfair" tax after the internet poll by MSN Money.

The report gave members of the public a series of scenarios where they were asked to pick the least fair of two taxes.

After 150,000 voted were cast, fuel duty was identified as the tax moat people deem to be unfair.

Council tax, inheritance tax, road tax and VAT were also unpopular, with income tax, stamp duty and insurance, capital gains and airport taxes making up the top ten.

Simon Ward, MSN Money's senior editor, said: "With fuel prices heading for another record high, it's perhaps not surprising that fuel duty was the popular choice as the most unfair tax.

"Interestingly, despite it becoming an election issue, national insurance didn't make the top ten, which suggests our users think it's fairer than many other taxes."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
