FSB highlights complex nature of UK red tape

Red tape is one of the most "burdensome and complex issues" faced by the UK's small enterprises.

That is according to the Federation of Small Businesses, which said 27 per cent of UK firms believe increased regulation creates difficulties in expanding their operation, while 33 per cent say regulation is the "biggest obstacle" to growth.

A spokesman for the organisation commented: "The government has put in place a moratorium for micro firms on all new domestic regulations for the next three years.

"The FSB is disappointed that the government appears to have decided to remove some large regulatory changes from the moratorium – including the extension to paternal leave and pay and the removal of the default retirement age – both of which impose a big burden on small businesses."

It comes after an announcement from the Home Office inviting businesses to tell government how to cut bureaucracy and boost business.
