Employment agencies receive warning from HSE

Date: 30th June 2008

Recruitment agencies in the Cambridgeshire-area have received a warning from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in relation to the recruitment of migrant employees.

The organisation has warned that agencies will be subjected to spot-checks between Monday June 30th and the end of July.

"Employment agencies should be made aware that inspectors from HSE and from all the local authority environmental health departments in Cambridgeshire are undertaking these checks over the next month and will follow up visits to the premises where migrant workers are placed," said David Head, principal inspector for the Cambridgeshire area at the HSE.

Under the terms of the inspections, premises will be identified where employed migrant employees may be vulnerable.

It was highlighted that such employees might be at risk because of a lack of comprehension and poor quality inductions and training programmes.

The HSE receives sponsorship from the Department for Work and Pensions.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
