Employees must be 'monitored' to prevent fraud

Date: 10th April 2008

Small business owners must ensure they monitor employees in order to prevent fraud, according financial support group CPP.

Danny Harrison, a fraud expert from the group, says there have been cases of retail staff "skimming" credit cards and carrying out other fraudulent activity.

"Employers need to ensure that staff aren't involved in that sort of activity and need to have steps in place so that it can be monitored. Make sure continual checks are being carried out," he recommends.

Mr Harrison also advises small business owners to ensure that they properly "vet" new employees and adds that financial institutions also need to do more in the fight against fraud.

A recent study carried out by CPP revealed that 28 per cent of Londoners have been a victim of credit card fraud.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
